Postoperative Instructions for Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)

- Sleep with your head elevated on several pillows for 2-3 weeks following surgery. This helps reduce swelling.
- Many patients are more comfortable consuming a soft diet for several days after surgery.
- Medication information
- Take pain and sleep medication as needed.
- Take antibiotics for 5 days.
- Take Medrol Dosepak for one week.
- DO NOT take any aspirin-containing medications as this may cause serious complications.
- Dr. Serota will provide you with nasal drops to help keep nasal passageways clear. You may use them as frequently as necessary.
- During the first month after surgery, avoid blowing your nose and bending over for extended periods of time.
- Tub baths are preferred during the first week, as a shower may loosen the splint.
- Facial sunblock after surgery is strongly recommended to help prevent sunburn and swelling.
- Refrain from all sporting activities until given clearance from Dr. Serota.
