Dermaplaning or Blading
Dermaplaning, or Blading, is an exfoliating treatment that helps "refinish" the skin’s top layer through controlled scraping. The actual process involves using a surgical scalpel to remove the excess hair and dead surface cells from the epidermis. The sensation you feel is comparable to running a credit card along your skin. With this procedure, sun damage is minimized, oil and blackheads are unblocked and unwanted facial hair is temporarily removed. The treatments soften the skin, giving it a smoother appearance.
Skin types that benefit from this removal of the micro-thin top layer of the skin are: oily skin, sun-damaged skin, hyper-pigmented skin, acne-prone skin, skin with bothersome facial hair and skin with large pores. Compared to standard chemical facial peels and microdermabrasion, dermaplaning offers a much milder exfoliation and requires no long recovery time for redness or peeling. After treatment, skin may have some redness that should calm in 2 to 4 hours.
This procedure can be done alone or in conjunction with a chemical peel to help draw oil from pores to enhance exfoliation and help repair sun damage and/or acne conditions. If combined with a chemical peel, you will receive a more efficacious treatment.
A non-chemical approach is preferable for individuals with slightly darker skin, because dermaplaning is less likely to produce extreme changes and contrast in skin color.
It is advised to have one or two treatments per month. Five to six treatments are generally required to achieve the fully-desired effect, but treatments can be ongoing to exfoliate the skin and remove excess facial hair.
