Microdermabrasion skin care is a non-chemical, non-surgical alternative that can treat the superficial effects of aging, sun exposure and injury with no discomfort or side effects. Treatment is quick (15-20) minutes and patients can return immediately to their daily schedules. Five to ten treatments may be required to achieve the best results, depending on the skin type and condition. Because there are no side effects, there is no limit to the number of skin care treatments a patient can receive. It is important to remember that while results are immediate, maximum improvement will be progressive and slow. Over time age spots, fine lines, wrinkles and other surface imperfections will be less obvious, minimized or erased.
Microdermabrasion skin care works by gently buffing away the outer layer of the skin. Using a precision hand piece, a stream of very fine crystals and mild suction is directed exactly where needed on the patient's skin. The gentle abrasive action of the crystals combines with the suction to remove the dead outer layer while bringing the smoother, softer underlayer of skin to the surface. The sensation experienced during this skin treatment has been described by some patients as similar to a "very small vacuum cleaner sweeping across the skin."
