Vital Information About Breast Lift

Anesthesia: Usually general, under certain circumstances, the procedure may be performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation.

Location: Surgery Center, Hospital or in the clinic for simple cases.

Surgery Length: 1-3 hours.

Length of stay: Outpatient – home the same day.

Discomfort: Mild to moderate and can be tolerated with prescribed pain medication. Anticipate 3-14 days of this medication.

Swelling: Improves in 3-10 days and will diminish after several weeks when adhering to post-operative instructions.

Bruising: Improves in 3-5 days and will diminish in 7-14 days, some have no bruising at all.

Numbness: Temporary numbness, if it occurs, can last 1-2 months. Permanent numbness may occur in 10-15% of post-operative patients.

Bandages: Surgical bandages are removed one day after surgery. At this time you are fitted in a surgical bra for better comfort. This bra should be worn for 6 weeks; we will provide you with two.

Sutures: There will be two types of sutures placed. One will be removed at one week and the other at two weeks following your surgery.

Back to work: You may return to light duty work in 7-10 days. If your job requires heavy lifting or long periods of time on your feet, wait 2-3 weeks.

Exercise: Walking is encouraged for the first 2 weeks, after which, light exercise can be resumed at 3 weeks, leading up to your normal regimen without restrictions at 6 weeks.

Final Result: Breast shape will settle and look natural at about 6-8 weeks. Although the incision lines are permanent, the scars will continue to fade up to a year after your surgery with proper scar massage and sun avoidance.
